I've got three very exciting things to announce today (and one sort of sad thing to announce).
NUMBER 1: HELEN ON 86TH ST. TICKETS ARE OFFICIALLY ON SALE TO THE PUBLIC! Just go here to purchase them.
NUMBER 2: The wonderful Donna Lynne Champlin will be playing Victoria!
Donna won me over many years ago when I was teaching workshops for Broadway Classroom. We always had a "Broadway guest" come in and talk to the group we had been teaching, and I'll never forget that half hour with Donna. She was appearing in Sweeney Todd on Broadway as an accordion/flute/piano playing "Pirelli." (Yes, that is a man. Donna played a man...brilliantly. ) She was just such a breath of fresh air. Smart, down-to-earth, charming, goofy and such a generous spirit. She was so interesting and full of life. And to me, that is Victoria in a nutshell.
I just can't express how excited we are to have her on board with us. Check her out:
NUMBER 3: Here's the sad news, unfortunately, the lovely and brilliant Tracy Bersley will not be able to choreograph our show. Tracy will be very, very pregnant during Helen rehearsals, and all parties agreed that it just wasn't good for her health or her sweet little baby-girl-to-be's health to be jumping around staging Greek battle dances. Tracy's unique aesthetic and her insight as an artist will be sorely missed, but I can't wait to welcome my new adopted "niece" into the world come June.
So the good news is....
The equally brilliant JOSH BERGASSE will be choreographing our show. I used to sit in awe outside Josh's incredibly popular Intermediate Advanced Theatre dance class at Broadway Dance Center as I waited to take my Advanced Beginner Theatre class. Only in New York can you see some of the best Broadway dancers in the city sweating and grunting as they learn combinations and choreography. It was better than a Broadway show...and free (other than the cost of my Advanced Beginner Theatre Class). We are thrilled to have him joining our team.
As soon as I come out from under this pile of work that I'm trying to get through, I will introduce you to our fantastic design team.
