This is usually the day of the week when I simply can't muster up the energy to write another blog entry, so I pull out a meaningful and poignant quote that sums up where I am at. I was definitely in that place last night when I got home. After a very long week and with a weekend full of work ahead of me, I knew I needed something comforting. But, I needed more than a quote this time. I needed to spend some time with my man.
Mr. Stephen Colbert.
I mean, what's not to love? He acts, he sings, he dances, he improvises, he's incredibly smart and funny...and Stephen never lets me down. He's always there for me, even in my darkest moments, with an arched eyebrow, an adjustment of his glasses, and a witty remark. All I have to do is pull out my remote control, activate my DVR and I can see his adorable little face smirking at me. He takes my mind off Helen, makes me laugh, and reminds me that there is a much larger world out there than the tiny microcosm that I tend to get wrapped up in.
And the thing I like the best about Stephen Colbert is that even though he is playing a character who takes himself incredibly serious, it's obvious the real Stephen Colbert doesn't take himself too seriously. He's a man who just goes for it and doesn't care what people think...and the fun he's having while he does that is contagious. He's always the reminder I need to not take things so seriously.
Since he's married, I know that we can never be together...but, at the very least, maybe, just maybe, someday Helen will get the Colbert bump.
A girl's gotta' have dreams, right?
If you've had a week like mine, check out these clips, laugh and try not to take your life so seriously. It only gets in your way.
A tip of the hat to you, Mr. Colbert!
